Empty

I need a fill up!   I’m running on empty a lot of days.  My tank cannot seem to keep up with the demand most days as I run from here to there trying to keep up with it all.  Stopping to fill up can be so inconvenient with a houseful of kids and groceries and errands and...and...and...the list goes on and on.  I’m a mom by day and a Uber service by night pretty much day in and day out.
Now, you may be wondering how many ways I can say this without being any more cliche.  You may be curious why I am so worried about my tank being filled.  Well, things work and perform better when they are on full. Optimal performance, I believe it’s called.
Hoss is doing his level best to keep the tank full, but with everything going on these days some fill ups only seem to last a few days at best when they used to last a good week.

The stakes can be so high when the tank is empty in the middle of rush hour traffic!  I become the not so nice Baker and rather a cranky lunatic yelling at everything that moves in my direction.  Trying to push the vehicle to the gas station is not the easiest thing to do either.  Especially, when you’re almost to the point of swearing because you’re stalled out in the turn lane.

So what’s the solution to this craziness???
Do less?  Nope...not going to happen anytime soon.  Too many responsibilities that will not automatically disappear.

Be more planful, so the tank does not get empty to begin with?  That is helpful in its own right, but things still happen.  Not every day, but often enough.

What about trying to combine those errands so I’m running less?  Maybe...but often times that is just not possible.
More spanking so you don’t run out of gas the next time?  Well, that would fill the spank tank, now would it not?  Yup!  I'm all for that!

What...you did not really think I was talking about gas, did you?

Thanks, Fondles, for reminding me of the idea for this post!  Thanks also to Lindy, Amy and EsMay for gently encouraging me to write here again.  You, ladies, are the best!

    1. So, so sorry to just be getting to my replies. Apparently, our main computer that is in the living room lets me reply, for now! I'm so happy that someone else gets this...it makes me feel good to know others understand exactly what I mean when I say this!

  3. Spank tanks that run low are never a good idea when the subbie becomes cranky. I know you are always super busy and there is no time for refills. Maybe just a few top ups every now and again. A swat here, a swat there until you can find the time for a full tank refill.
My spank tank has been empty for a while living off the smell of the fumes.
Hope you can coordinate some time for maintenance with Hoss before you blow a gasket. LOL!

  4. Hi Baker,

So wonderful to see you post :) I love how you did this and no, I didn't think you were talking about gas lol,

I seriously don't know how you and Hoss do it. It's no wonder the spank tank gets low. I hope Hoss keeps the tank topped up. Running on empty can definitely lead to some dicey moments.

    1. Well, Roz, I will tell you the truth. We are nuts! That's how we manage. We're too busy not to just keep going! And the spanking fills both of our tanks up!

  5. Hi Baker, low spank tanks are never fun. I don't know how you get it all done, but I'm sure it's okay to tell that hubby of yours that you need more top ups. :) Maybe even do a daily for a while until you level out? :)

  6. SPANK TANK! Love it. I'm on empty and if Eric would get on a thorough overhaul of this engine, the world would probably seem a little brighter. Come on Eric!! Don't make me call AAA.

  7. Crazy seasons of life require frequent refills! I barely made it to the gas station this week, terrified I would run out of gas. The whole way there I was dreading having to tell Dominic I ran out of gas. Thank God I made it, wow that would have been a doozy!

    1. Oh, my, Madeline, a doozy is no good! Glad you were able to get there and not have to make THAT call!

  8. Baker,
It has been a long time. I am trying to crawl back to blogland slowly. First a fabulous vacation and then a house disaster, but I am just managing to keep my head above the water.

I knew you were talking about spanking immediately, but a nice metaphor there, girl. Yep, you said it just right. I especially liked Lindy's advice on a swat here and a swat there when you don't have time to get the whole tank filled.

    1. Miss Ella,
Lovely to see you back! Sorry to hear about the house disaster--no good! Yes, that love tank can get refilled with little swats, but for me it's always the big ones that keep me chugging along the best!

  9. Hi Baker ... I can well imagine with your crazy busy life, it's tough to even find a gas station, let alone make the time to fill up. However, just keep an eye out. Sometimes just when you think you're not going to make it any further, you turn a corner and, whew! there's a station ;)) ... nj

    1. Yes, let's just say Hoss agrees with you NJ, and filled me up quite nicely last night! Whew! we made it!
